SEWING TUTORIAL:
“Kitchen apron”


MATERIAL
- 100 x 140 cm of plain linen or cotton
- 30 x 140 cm of printed linen or cotton
- 1 cotton polyester thread in a colour coordinated with the plain fabric
- Several machine embroidery threads in assorted colours
- 3 buttons, 2 cm maximum
- 20 x 20 cm embroidery stabilizer
Alternatively, this item can be made only as a customization
project with the elna eXpressive 802 embroidery machine.
MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES
- Computerized sewing and embroidery machine
- In this tutorial, we use the elna eXpressive 808.
Standard accessories used in this tutorial* :
- Standard foot A
- Automatic buttonhole foot R
- Satin stitch foot F
- Embroidery foot P
Optional accessories :
*Included with the machine.
HOW TO CREATE THE APRON
- Fold your fabric in half, right sides together, place the apron pattern on the fabric fold.
- Mark the seams as follows:
– at the top and bottom of the apron, add 4 cm,
– on the sides, 4 cm,
– on the curves, 1.5 cm
- In the printed linen or cotton, cut by adding a 1 cm seam allowance
– the ties: 2 pieces of 95 x 8 cm
– the adjustable strap (neck strap): 74 x 8 cm
– the pockets: 4 pieces of 12 x 13 cm

- Fold the strap and the apron ties in half, right sides together.
- Sew the ties, leave one end open and turn out.
- For the strap, sew all around, leaving a small opening on one side to turn it out.
- Topstitch a few millimetres from the edge.

- Give your pocket the shape you want, here the upper part is sewn slightly diagonally.
- Place the two parts of the pockets right sides together, sew all around, leaving an opening to turn them out.
- Notch the corners, turn out and iron.
EMBROIDERY

- Embroider the bib of your apron.
- Here, we chose the cupcake design available on the elna available oneXpressive 802 and 808.


- Choose a decorative stitch that you will sew 5 cm from the hemline.
- For this step you require embroidery thread and the satin stitch foot F.
- Here, we use the satin stitch n°1, 7 mm wide.
SEWING

- On the two rounded sides of the apron, make a double hem, 1 cm finished.
- Stitch right on the edge.

- Prepare the bottom and top hems of the apron as follows.
- Make a first 1 cm hem, iron, then make a second 3 cm hem, iron.
- Stitch the two hems a few millimetres from the edge.

- On the sides of the apron, make a double hem, 2 cm finished.
- Insert the ties inside the hem.
- Stitch a few millimetres from the edge.

- Attach the buttonhole foot R on your machine, insert the button at the back.
- Make a stitch to mark the beginning of your buttonholes; you can also draw a line for direction.
- Sew the buttonhole stitch n°1 and open the buttonholes.
- Sew the buttons.

- Place the pockets on the marks, baste and sew a few millimetres from the edge.


Congratulations, your apron is finished.
